Villena Living History
Description
Hotel pick-up at 9:00 AM. Departure towards Villena, located in the interior of the province of Alicante, in the Alto Vinalopó region. Visit its Castle, declared a National Monument in 1931. Built by the Arabs before the 12th century, it was an important Muslim stronghold. Continue to a winery in La Serrata area for a Wine and Olive Oil Tasting*; we will also take a guided tour of the winery's chapel, vineyards, production rooms, etc. Next, we will visit the Villena Museum, which houses its famous “Treasure of Villena,” an impressive set of goldwork dating back to around 1000 B.C. It is mostly composed of gold pieces: 11 bowls, 28 bracelets forming the largest set. Prehistoric goldsmithing reaches its peak with these pieces, being the most important gold tableware set from the Bronze Age along with the treasures from the royal tombs of Mycenae, in Greece. Optional lunch (Typical local gastronomy, mountain rice specialty, full menu. Price per person €45). If you do not opt for this, there will be free time in the town for lunch and departure back to Alicante at 4:00 PM. *The Tasting includes: Wines, 2 extra virgin olive oils, and a selection of Iberian cured meats. Approximate duration: 90 minutes.
