In the morning, departure to Villena and Biar. The Atalaya or Villena castle stands on the San Cristóbal or Villa mountain, in the town of Villena, in the northwest of the province of Alicante, close to the border lines of Albacete, Valencia and Murcia. The Villanense town hall is a Renaissance-style building that houses the José María Soler Archaeological Museum around its beautiful cloister. In its rooms, archaeological pieces that have shaped the history of the region are exhibited. But the most incredible and fascinating of all is the so-called Treasure of Villena, a set of sixty gold pieces – bowls, bracelets, bottles and various pieces that adorned a scepter – hidden three thousand years ago. Biar Castle dates back to the 12th century. It is included in the route of the Vinalopó castles, declared a National Monument in 1931, today BIC, it preserves an Almohad vault from the 12th century.
